Featured Tune: "Hey" by Points

The indie band Points’ new track Hey has a strong and loud start that immediately wraps you up in a trance. You can feel the music from multiple guitars blending together, which makes you delve deeper into the melody.

The opening verse creates a visual depiction of a lazy Sunday afternoon and then immediately shifts to two entirely different practices. “Meditate and Armbars” can be considered two different lifestyles, which are being compared in the next verse. Meditation is a peaceful practice, while Armbars is a combat sport that can be very painful. This indicates that the person is questioning their life choices and what-ifs, which would have led to either peace or destruction.

Moving forward, you can feel the pain in the chorus, “Well, I fell in love, but I shook it off.” How casually the concept as big as love is trying to be brushed off, followed by the painful realization that they do not want to “count on anyone.”

Lastly, when addressed by the question of why this person is giving the cold shoulder to the person they love, the singer describes their wish to be honest and express their feelings.

Points has brilliantly composed this song to make us relate to the reality of our lives—how sometimes we are cruel to the people we love the most. The gaps between the verses, combined with the intense and loud music, make you contemplate the lyrics and the deep meaning behind them.

Points has beautifully expressed the act of pushing away love because of your personal experiences and combined it with the compelling melody that pulls at your heart’s strings.
